Portland Beavers to Start 2011 in Tucson?

According to an article in the Tucson Daily Star, Merritt Paulson, owener of the Portland Beavers, is looking for a temporary home for the San Diego Padres Triple-A Affiliate. Two potential solutions, Hi Corbett Field and Tucson Electric Park, are available in Tucson. PGE Park where the Beavers currently play will be undergoing a $31 million dollar rennovation in anticpation of the new Portland Timbers soccer team (also owned by Paulson).

It's hard to say whether this is grandstanding on Paulson's part in an effort to get the City of Portland to fund a new stadium or whether the move is emminent. Either way, it's bad news for Portland as a new stadium reaching completion with a little more than a year until the required relocation seems unlikely. Beavers fans would then have better luck driving to Tacoma to watch the hometown team, rather than having to go all the way to Tucson.
